Forget Tesla! BYD Unveils World’s Fastest EV Charger with 5-Minute Full Charge

Chinese EV giant BYD is rewriting the rules of electric vehicle charging with its groundbreaking 'megawatt flash chargers,' boasting an astonishing 1,360 kW capacity that delivers a full charge in just five minutes—enough for 400 km of range. While Tesla’s Superchargers have long set the benchmark, BYD’s latest innovation, paired with ambitious plans for over 4,000 such stations in China, signals a seismic shift in the global EV landscape, leaving India’s nascent charging infrastructure in stark contrast

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD has recently announced the launch of high-power EV chargers with a capacity of 1,360 kW. These 'megawatt flash chargers' are capable of charging batteries four times faster than regular charging systems. The special thing is that they can give a range of up to 400 km in just 5 minutes, making charging an EV as easy as filling petrol. The company aims to install more than 4,000 such charging stations in China, so that electric car owners can get the best charging facility.

India still has a long way to go

While companies like BYD in China are engaged in making EV charging superfast, the charging infrastructure in India still needs to be developed. However, BYD India is also engaged in strengthening its hold in the Indian market. Recently the company introduced Sealion 7 and updated the 2025 model of Atto 3.
